I have a friend who was almost killed by someone in his family. The person who abused him, and then attacked and almost killed him, hated him so much that he was looking for ways to kill him. My friend heard about his plan from his parents. He's been in Columbia, MO since August. The domestic violence happened in Huntington, WV on July 22, 2011. It happened at his parents' home. My friend tried to call the police there the day after, but the police officer told him he couldn't do anything until he goes to the courthouse to file a domestic violence petition. Meanwhile, his parents pressured him not to involve the police and the court about this. So, he couldn't go anywhere for help without his family noticing. My friend doesn't have a car. It's been about five months since the incident. During his time here in Columbia, MO, schooling at a university. He's been calling the domestic violence services, the victims' assistance program, and the police in Huntington, WV. So far, he hasn't gotten the help he wants from Columbia, MO. So, he has decided to travel to Huntington, WV this christmas break, to meet the victim advocate he called, and go from there, hopefully be able to press criminal charges against him. He is indecisive about whether to go to the courthouse, and meet the victim advocate. He is still hurt, and afraid. He doesn't want this person to come after him. He fears that this person will use his parents to come to my friend. So, he wants to tell the proper authorities about this criminal, and get a restraining order against him. What should he do? Should he go to Huntington, WV when the fall semester is over, to meet the victim advocate, or not? He wants to take legal action before it's too late. He has all the evidence he could get of the incident. Part of him wants to go, but the other part is terrified of going to meet the victim advocate. As I said, he doesn't want this person to come after him. He's also afraid that his family would come after him if he reports to the court justice system. Is it a good idea or bad idea for him to go now? Thank for helping my friend with this person.... Read More »
